Monitor Audio is a British owned and managed global specialist in hi-fi loudspeaker design, incorporating stereo and surround sound systems. Monitor Audio’s speakers are regularly featured in publications such as What Hi-Fi.  Their latest product, a diversification from loudspeakers, the AirStream 10 Wifi Radio has been nominated in the T3 Gadget Awards 2009 in the Drop dead gorgeous gadget category.

After moving the substantial Monitor Audio website to a new content management system late last year we were eager to get our hands dirty and have an opportunity to add some subtle design enhancements and also overhaul the underlying HTML coding to ensure it was both standard compliant and accessible.

We focussed on moving text from images into the HTML code of the page to ensure the content was accessible to screen reader users and search engine robots alike.  An added benefit of this was a faster download time for users and reduced bandwidth consumption.  We also added several 360 degree animations so users are able to fully appreciate the quality of the products.

Typography was also a particular area we focussed on, making sure headings and titles were as clean and sharp as possible and mirrored the same brand image that is conveyed so strongly through Monitor Audio’s print collateral.

In order to encourage return visits we made the news section much more prominent with the latest four news items output to the website homepage and the most recent articles are also syndicated to an RSS feed users can subscribe to.
